See how thatgamecompany created the magical art of Sky

Gnomon is hosting an exclusive glimpse into how cult indie game developer thatgamecompany created its latest title at a free presentation at its Hollywood campus next Thursday, 30 January 2020.

The event, The Art of Sky: Children of the Light, will also be broadcast worldwide on Gnomon’s Twitch channel: you can watch it via the player embedded above.

Discover how thatgamecompany created Sky’s magical – and graphically challenging – world
Since its foundation in 2005, thatgamecompany has built a reputation on creating games based around evoking emotional expriences, rather than conventional gameplay mechanics.

Its titles include the cult hits Flow, Flower and Journey, all published by Sony Computer Entertainment, and available for Sony consoles and Windows.

Sky: Children of the Light, its latest release, is the first that the company has published itself, and its first real foray into mobile gaming.

Recently awarded Apple’s iPhone game of the year for 2019, the “social adventure” encourages players to explore a magical kingdom, meeting and befriending one another.

During the Gnomon session, key members of thatgamecompany’s art team will discuss Sky: Children of the Light’s seven-year development process, and reveal how its colourful world was created.

The panel – art director Cecil Kim, lead artist Yuichiro Tanabe, senior artist Trevor Stringer and 3D environment artist Aaron Jessie – will also explore technical aspects of the game.

During the presentation, the team will discuss thatgamecompany’s proprietary engine, and how it enabled them to raise the bar for game graphics on mobile platforms.
