Download Ten24’s free hi-res 3D scan of a male human head

Ten24 has released a free high-resolution scan of a male human head, complete with 8,192 x 8,192px or 16,384 x 16,384-pixel PBR texture maps, and available in a range of common 3D formats.

The model was created via photogrammetry using over 120 DSLR cameras, then cleaned and retopologised.

A free 3D head scan, provided in ZTL, OBJ and FBX format with up to 16K textures
The resulting ZBrush ZTL file is provided with seven subdivision levels, the highest coming in at just over 50 million polygons, including clothing.

The exported model is also available in OBJ and FBX formats, with the head, eyelashes, eyebrows and jacket supplied as separate files.

It comes with 8,192 x 8,192px JPEG or 16,384 x 16,384-pixel TGA textures. Both sets comprise colour, specular, normal, gloss, translucency and cavity maps, so they should be compatible with PBR workflows.

Ten24 has also provided a Marmoset Toolbag scene with skin and material shaders already set up for the model, using the 8K texture maps.

The firm sells a range of further commercial 3D scans, including male and female heads, hands, feet and full bodies, via 3D Scan Store, its online shop.

Availabiity and system requirements
Ten24’s 3D head scan is free to download. It isn’t licensed for commercial use, but can be used for any private or non-commercial project, or for internal tests within a studio or company.

The ZBrush scene file requires ZBrush 4R8 Update 2 or higher; the Marmoset scene requires Toolbag 3.

The assets are provided in two zip archives, both 1.1 to 1.2GB in size: one with the 16K texture maps, and one with all of the other files. To download them, you’ll need to sign up for the 3D Scan Store email newsletter.
