Chaos Group ships Phoenix FD 3.14 for 3ds Max and Maya

Chaos Group has released Phoenix FD 3.14, the latest update to its fluid simulation software for 3ds Max and Maya, speeding up previews of simulation caches and reducing flicker when rendering FLIP simulations.

Better simulation previews, updated FLIP sims
The release updates the software’s preview system, with support for render layers in the Simulator’s viewport preview, and the option to show the mesh preview together with the voxel preview channels.

Previewing Phoenix FD’s .aur cache files is also faster, although Chaos Group doesn’t say by how much.

FLIP fluid simulations get a further update, with the Grid viscosity channel now reconstructed from FLIP particles when using Time Bend Controls to reduce render flickering.

There are also a few smaller features, plus the usual range of bugfixes, and – in the case of the Maya edition – support for Maya 2019. You can find a full list via the links below.

Pricing and availability
Phoenix FD 3.14 is available for 64-bit 3ds Max 2014+ and Maya 2015+ on Windows and Linux only. New workstation licences of either edition cost $830, while extra simulation licences cost $210 each.
