Master SynthEyes tracking for production

The Gnomon Workshop has released SynthEyes Tracking for Production, a complete guide to camera and object tracking in Andersson Technologies’ software, recorded by Deadpool artist Kevin Bolivar.

The video training, which lasts for just under four hours, is intended both as an introduction to tracking workflows and a guide for experienced matchmove artists switching to SynthEyes from other apps.

A complete guide to tracking workflows using SynthEyes and Maya
Bolivar begins by explaining the theory behind tracking, and how it applies to the process of solving camera motion, removing distortion and tracking objects within a visual effects shot.

He then provides an overview of the key tools within SynthEyes, exporting data to Maya.

Bolivar also explores how to set up simple 3D geometry corresponding to the live-action footage for layout work, and how to use animation to understand how objects move in space.

The training covers a range of shot types, each with their own problems and solutions.

About the artist
Kevin Bolivar is a freelance tracking and matchmove artist, currently working at Encore Hollywood.

His previous work includes movies and TV shows including Deadpool, Doom Patrol, Captain America: Civil War and Dr. Strange; commercials for Nissan, Ford and Coca-Cola; and a VR project for Mr. Robot.
