RE:Vision Effects releases RE:Lens V2

RE:Vision Effects has released RE:Lens V2, the latest version of its lens conversion and stabilisation plugin for working with 180-degree and 360-degree VR footage in common compositing applications.

The update makes it possible to stabilise super-wide-angle fisheye footage, and adds the option to generate little planet effects from footage in LatLong format.

Undistort video shot with fisheye lenses to create 360-degree or super-wide-angle shots
First released in 2016, RE:Lens lets users shoot with fisheye lenses or even mirror balls, then correct the resulting image distortion and chromatic aberration to leave undistorted super-wide-angle footage.

The corrected footage can be exported in LatLong format for viewing as 360-degree video, or converted to standard 2D format, with the option to edit camera position and movement.

New in V2: better stabilisation and undistortion of fisheye footage
The V2 update extends those capabilities, making it possible to stabilise footage captured with super fisheye lenses and render out a new fisheye view.

Equisolid fisheye footage gets two Undistort controls to represent more arbitrary lens curves.

There are also now output field of view options when converting footage from LatLong to fisheye format, making it easier to go back and forth between the two.

Generate little planet effects from LatLong footage
Other new features include the option to generate ‘little planet’ effects from LatLong footage, as shown in the video above. You can find a full list of changes via the link below.

Since we last wrote about RE:Lens, the range of host applications has been extended: as well as Adobe software, it now works with a wider range of compositing tools, including Nuke and Fusion.

Pricing and availability
RE:Lens V2 is available for After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, Fusion, HitFilm, Motion, Natron, Nuke, Premiere Pro, Scratch and Silhouette.

A new licence costs $189.95. A single licence works across a group of host applications: those made by Adobe, those made by Apple, or the remaining OFX-comaptible applications.
