Xsens has released MVN Animate 2019, a new version of the motion-capture software designed for use with its MVN range of inertial mocap suits.

New features include “HD reprocessing for multi-level scenarios”, intended to improve data quality of actors captured moving vertically as well as horizontally, such as when climbing walls or stairs.

The update also adds the option to swap trackers in data stored in the software’s native .mvn format and updates the way it tracks an actor’s head, pelvis and foot contacts with the ground.

Sister product MVN Analyze 2019, designed for sports science and biomechanics research, has been updated with the same new features.

Updated 2 September 2019: Xsens has released MVN Animate 2019.2, adding new features for capturing motion data outside of a studio.

The update makes it possible to trigger recording to recording to actors’ body packs remotely, with the option to trigger up to 25 devices synchronously.

On-body recording enables actors to move outside the range of a wireless access point.

The update also adds support for Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), making it possible to track an actor’s global position more accurately, even in activities in which there is no foot contact with the ground.

MVN Animate previously extrapolated changes of position from foot contacts, which not only made it impossible to track position in sports like skiing and cycling, but caused errors to build up over time.

Pricing and availability
MVN Animate 2019.2 is available for Windows only. The software is available in standard and Pro editions.

The base edition exports data in FBX, BVH and C3D formats and direct to Maya, MotionBuilder and Unity; the Pro edition adds more export plugins, plus support for timecode data and a reference camera.

The software is bundled with Xsens’ MVN Awinda and Link suits, and is priced on enquiry.
