Amazon ships Lumberyard 1.16

Amazon has released Lumberyard 1.16, the latest beta of the game engine and development environment, adding a new Simple Motion component for playing motion clips without an animation graph.

The update also adds support for tangent information in FBX files, including MikkT tangent space.

New Simple Motion component for assigning motion clips to characters, support for MikkT tangents
New features for artists in Lumberyard 1.16 include a new Simple Motion component for the EMotion FX animation editor, intended for assigning motion clips to characters without the need for an animation graph.

The engine can also now import tangent and bitangent information from FBX files, including support for the MikkT tangent basis: historically an issue when importing assets created for other game engines.

Other than that, it’s mainly under-the-hood changes – notably, a revamp of the memory management system to help troubleshoot memory leaks – and improved documentation.

Availability and system requirements
Lumberyard 1.16 is available now. The editor runs on Windows 7 and above.

The engine is free to use for developing offline and local multiplayer games, including source code access; online games must use Amazon Web Services, charged at Amazon’s standard AWS rates.
