Online media collaboration platform Cage now free to use

BitConfused has made Cage, its online platform for managing and reviewing creative projects, available to individual artists for free.

The new ‘free forever’ plan includes all of tools available in commercial subscription plans, and enables an unlimited number of other people to review your work.

A client-friendly solution for project management and 2D asset review
Launched in 2012, Cage is designed as an intuitive system for project management, with a user base that includes the Jim Henson Company and Foundry, which uses it for its video documentation.

Creative Bloq included it in its 2014 round-up of the best five tools for production tracking, describing it as “hard to beat” for smaller-scale projects, and noting that it is especially popular with clients.

Last year’s v3 update added new collaboration features like tasks, permissions management, asset versioning, and a resolvable comments system, including annotation tools for sketching directly onto media.

Subsequent smaller updates have added new tools for building presentations, and integrated the platform with Slack and Dropbox.

Although Cage is primarily aimed at web and graphic designers and doesn’t support 3D assets, it is compatible with standard 2D image and video formats.

Suggested use cases relevant to CG Channel readers include concept art, animatics and marketing material.

Now free to indvidual artists for single projects
The new ‘free forever’ plan provides individual artists with access to all of Cage’s collaboration and project management features, plus 2GB of online storage.

Users can invite an unlimited number of reviewers to comment on or approve files, but you’re limited to a single project, and you don’t get active support.

To add more collaborators, or to work on more than one project, you’ll need a commercial subscription.

Standard subs, which include 500GB of storage but only provide asset review tools, cost $8/user/month; Professional subs, which include 2TB of storage and the project management tools, cost $14/user/month.
