See DreamWorks’ new CG shorts at Gnomon on Thursday
Visitors to Gnomon’s Hollywood campus this Thursday, 20 September, will have an exclusive chance to see DreamWorks’ Animation‘s latest CG shorts.
The school’s free three-hour event, DreamWorks Animation: The Making of ‘Bilby’ & ‘Bird Karma’, brings together the directors of the two animations for a unique behind-the-scenes look at their creation.

Set in the Australian outback, Bilby follows desert-dwelling marsupial Perry through the trials of ‘parenthood’ after he saves a defenseless chick from predators and inadvertently becomes her protector.
The characters were originally created for the cancelled feature-length animated comedy Larrikins, and provide a tantalising glimpse of what the Tim Minchin/Chris Miller-directed movie might have looked like.
In their Gnomon presentation, Bilby co-directors Pierre Perifel, JP Sans, and Liron Topaz will be joined by producer Kelly Cooney to discuss the journey of the film and its characters.
The talk will also highlight some of the innovative new programs used to create the short.
The second film of the evening, Bird Karma, is the first release from the new DreamWorks Shorts program.
Director William Salazar – a DreamWorks veteran whose work with the studio goes all the way back to The Prince of Egypt – tells a tale of the consequences that befall a bird that is unable to change its nature.
He will be joined on stage by producer Jeff Hermann as they reveal the 20-year history behind the film and its style, and the challenges of creating the 2D pipeline needed in order to complete the short.
Visitors will also have a chance to ask their own questions during the 30-minute Q&A that closes the event.

DreamWorks Animation: The Making of ‘Bilby’ & ‘Bird Karma’ takes place at Gnomon’s Hollywood campus from 7.30-10:00pm on Saturday 20 September 2018. Entry is free, but you’ll need to register online first.
Unlike many of Gnomon’s events, you will have to be there in person: the talk won’t be Livestreamed.
