Eye candy: Chaos Group’s 2018 V-Ray showreel

Updated 3 May 2019: The original reel has been taken down, but Chaos Group has an updated version.

Chaos Group has posted its 2018 V-Ray showreel: a three-minute compilation of the best new visual effects and animation work – there’s no architectural visualisation this time round – created using the renderer.

As usual, it spans a range of different styles and formats, with the work on show ranging from pop promos, commercials and cinematics to broadcast and movie effects.

In the former camp, there is some great work from the US’s Ingenuity Studios and Poland’s Juice, plus standout game cinematics from France’s Unit Image and Sweden’s Goodbye Kansas Studios.

Movie effects come mainly from Pixomondo and Scanline VFX, but that checks off some of last year’s big hits, like Justice League and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2. – for which there’s an excellent VFX breakdown.

However, is also at least one non-English-language film in there, in the shape of German kids’ movie Jim Button and Luke the Engine Driver. You can see a breakdown of Mackevision’s gorgeous VFX here.
