Allegorithmic unveils Project Alchemist

Allegorithmic has posted a teaser video for Project Alchemist, a new next-gen material creation tool that will blend manual, procedural, capture-based and AI-based workflows.

The software, which will be free to Substance subscribers, is due for release this year: Allegorithmic is currently accepting applications for the closed beta, which will begin later this quarter.

A next-gen tool for material creation, including capture and AI-based workflows
According to Allegorithmic’s blog post, Project Alchemist is a “brand new tool in the Substance ecosystem”, and will bring the process of authoring materials “to the next level”.

As well as the procedural and hand-painting workflows available in the firm’s existing software, like Substance Designer and Substance Painter, that means new capture-based and AI-based workflows.

Allegorithmic has been dabbling with capture-based workflows for a while now, adding new nodes for processing scanned terrain in Substance Designer 5.6, back in 2016.

That seems to coincide with the start of Project Alchemist, which has been underway for “almost two years”.

Other than that, we don’t have any more information about the software yet. Anyone interested in finding out more can sign up for the beta program via the link at the foot of the story.

Pricing and availability
Project Alchemist is due to ship by the end of 2018. It will be free to anyone on a Substance subscription, which currently start at $19.90/month for Indie users and $99.90/month for Pro users.

Allegorithmic hasn’t released any pricing information for perptetual licences of the software – or indeed, confirmed that they will be available.
