3Dflow ships 3DF Zephyr 3.7
3Dflow has released 3DF Zephyr 3.7, the latest version of its image-based modelling software, adding support for multiband imaging and support for multitextures.
The update also reorganises the higher-end editions of the software, removing support for orthophotos and orthomosaics from the Pro edition of the software, and cutting its price by $500.
Now accepts multi-band images and exports multitextures
New features in version 3.7 include support for multitextures. It is now possible both to generate 3D models with more than one texture, and to re-import models with multiple textures, such as those in UDIM format.
The update also introduces support for multiband imagery: primarily for handling input from multispectral cameras, but also for projector-based set-ups along the lines of those used in structured light scanning.
Changes to existing features include a new mode in masking tool 3DF Masquerade for automatically calculating the silhouettes of objects photographed on turntables.
There is also a new texturing algorithm, speed boosts when processing large data sets, and support for the FBX file format when importing 3D geometry.
Feature and price cut to the Pro edition of the software
3Dflow has also reorganised the way in which features are divided between versions of the software, with support for orthophotos and orthomosaics now – quite logically – confined to the high-end Aerial edition.
As a result, the price of the mid-range Pro edition has been cut by $500, to $2,700.
Pricing and availability
3DF Zephyr 3.7 is available for 64-bit Windows Vista and above.
The free version includes a basic range of tools, works with up to 50 source images or video frames, and runs on a single GPU; the $149 Lite edition supports up to 500 source images and two GPUs.
The higher-end editions, the $2,700 Pro edition and the $4,200 Aerial edition, support unlimited source images and multiple GPUs, and add a range of advanced features. See a comparison table here.
