SideFX cuts price of Houdini Engine

SideFX has reduced the rental price of floating licences of Houdini Engine, its tool for loading assets created in Houdini into other DCC applications and have them remain editable in the new host software.

Monthly rental now costs $100/month, down from $195/month, and there is a new weekly rental option, priced at $35 for seven consecutive days.

In addition, existing Local Access licences of Houdini Engine, which permitted use only within a single facility, have been upgraded to Global Access, which permits use in the cloud, or across multiple facilities.

SideFX previously made Indie licences of the software, intended for artists earning under $100,000/year, available free.

Pricing and availability
Houdini Engine is available for Windows 7+, Linux and Mac OS X 10.10.2+. SideFX develops free integration plugins for Maya, Unity and UE4, and third-party plugins exist for 3ds Max and Cinema 4D.

The software is available rental-only: as well as the weekly and monthly options listed above, rental costs $495/year for a node-locked licence, or $795/year for a floating licence.
