Render Legion releases first Mac build of Corona for C4D

Render Legion has released Alpha 6 of Corona for C4D: the latest update to the Cinema 4D port of its popular 3ds Max render engine – and the first to support Mac OS X as well as Windows.

The update also moves the Cinema 4D edition onto the same core technology as the current commercial build, Corona 1.5 for 3ds Max, adding features like image denoising and interactive light mixing.

Now available for Mac, and near-feature-equivalent to the 3ds Max edition
In development since 2014, Corona for C4D is now on its sixth alpha build – and arguably, the most significant since the original release.

For a start, the software is now available to Mac as well as Windows users: something identified as a stumbling block to adoption since the original alpha release.

The update also brings the feature set of Corona for C4D closer in line with the 3ds Max edition, adding all of the new features from the latest release, Corona 1.5 for 3ds Max, and some from the 1.6 daily builds.

Key additions include render denoising; Interactive LightMix, Corona’s answer to Maxwell’s Multilight relighting system; and a range of post-processing effects, including filmic tonemapping, and support for LUTs.

The user interface has also been significantly reworked to make core features easier to find: something Render Legion describes as a “major part” of the release.

On its blog, the company says that “only small changes” will now be needed before the 1.0 release, at least to the UI, although there will be at least one further alpha, focused on interactive and network rendering.

Pricing and availability
Corona for C4D Alpha 6 is available for Cinema 4D R14 and above, running on Windows Vista and above and Mac OS X. The alpha version is free, and can be used on commercial projects.
