Gnomon ships essential guide to Storyboarding Techniques

The Gnomon Workshop has released Storyboarding Techniques: a complete guide to storyboarding in Photoshop, recorded by Falling Skies and Adult Swim Games artist Fred Gago.

A practical guide to creating professionally formatted storyboards
Clocking in at almost 10 hours, the video provides an essential guide to storyboarding.

In the tutorial, Gago runs through the process of creating a series of boards that convey a story, covering basic shot descriptions and abbreviations, simple camera moves, and choosing the proper aspect ratio.

The video also covers how to use Photoshop to create custom templates; how to compile found reference and story ideas into a single cohesive ‘reference deck’ using Adobe tools Bridge and Acrobat; and how to use Photoshop’s export features to generate a professional-looking PDF.

As well as practical techniques, Gago explains the compositional principles of creating dynamic frames.
