Gnomon has announced a free workshop this weekend with art director and matte painter Nick Hiatt, including an inside view of his matte paintings from Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

A chance to discover the secrets of Star Wars and 10 Cloverfield Lane
In the 90-minute event, which will also be broadcast worldwide on Gnomon’s Livestream channel, Hiatt will share his painting process and recount his experiences on recent blockbuster movies.

As well as The Force Awakens, Hiatt’s recent credits include 10 Cloverfield Lane, on which he was employed as art director at J. J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions.

The presentation will be followed by an in-depth Q&A session, and a chance to talk to Hiatt in person at the post-event meet and greet.

An Afternoon with Nick Hiatt: Matte Painting and Art Direction for Films will be held at Gnomon’s Hollywood campus from 2.00-3.30pm on Saturday 9 July. The event is free to attend, but you’ll need to register online first.
