Gnomon School of Visual Effects has announced Anatomy Lab: Entomology for Creature Designers – a free event intended to introduce CG artists to insect biology, held at its Hollywood campus this Saturday, 23 April.

Discover how insect anatomy can inspire creature design
The session – also broadcast on Gnomon’s Livestream channel – will bring members of the BioSCAN Team from the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles together with leading entertainment artists.

Over the course of four hours, the panel will discuss what Hollywood blockbusters get right in their creature designs, and what they get wrong, with reference to real insect anatomy and defence mechanisms.

The afternoon will wrap up with a ZBrush demonstration by Jared Krichevsky, creature designer at the Aaron Sims Company, who will “design a creature that puts the science into practice”.

Free to attend, but register online first
Anatomy Lab: Entomology for Creature Designers takes place at the Gnomon School of Visual Effects in Hollywood from 12-4pm on Saturday 23 April. The event is free to attend, but you’ll need to register online first.
