Video Copilot unveils Saber

Video Copilot has unveiled Saber, its new free After Effects plugin for creating energy effects.

To judge from the trailer above, the add-on creates energy beam and light trail effects (and yes, light sabers), including the option to combine them with 3D text for titles.

Saber has been due to release for a couple of weeks now, but according to Video Copilot’s latest blog update, it’s due to ship today, Friday 4 March.

Updated 6 March: Saber is now shipping. You can read a more detailed list of features in the blog post announcing the release, and see a video tutorial on using the plugin above.

The plugin is available for After Effects on both Windows and Mac OS X. We can’t see any system requirements online, but to judge by the comments on the blog post, it works with at least After Effects CS6 and above.
