Gnomon releases Structure and Anatomy of the Arm

The Gnomon Workshop has released Anatomy Workshop Volume Six: Structure and Anatomy of the Arm, a three-and-a-half-hour masterclass on drawing the human arm, recorded by figure painter Charles Hu.

An essential guide to figure drawing
The sixth in Hu’s ongoing series of guides to anatomical principles in traditional figurative art, the new video focuses on the structure and anatomy of the human arm.

Hu begins by reviewing the main skeletal structures of the arm, then runs through the primary muscle groups that attach to them, working from the shoulder down to the forearm.

In the later parts of the video, Hu works from photo reference to identify key structural landmarks of the arm and deconstruct how they behave when the arm is in motion.

According to Gnomon, the information Hu shares is “an essential foundation for producing believable and dynamic figure drawings, either from life or from the imagination”.
