Gnomon releases Sculpting a Dragon with ZBrush

The Gnomon Workshop has released Sculpting a Dragon with ZBrush: a comprehensive guide to creature modelling in ZBrush, recorded by freelance digital sculptor Maarten Verhoeven.

From ZSpheres to mythical beast
In the video, which lasts a smidgen under four hours, Verhoeven demonstrates how to create a highly detailed dragon in ZBrush, beginning with ZSpheres and ending with a final rendered image.

Verhoeven begins by blocking out the creature’s primary shapes, using additional SubTools for elements like horns, teeth, claws and wings, then retopologises the model, ready to sculpt the finer details.

He then creates a detailed rock base and puts the dragon in its final pose using Transpose Master, before sending the model to KeyShot to generate a final render of the finished digital sculpt.

Along the way, Verhoeven shares techniques for speeding up the sculpting and detailing process, and for making informed design decisions.
