Allegorithmic releases Substance Designer 4.5

Allegorithmic has released Substance Designer 4.5, the latest update to its texture-creation tool for next-generation games, refining its workflow for baking textures and creating physically based shaders.

Updates to baking workflow
Most of the new features in the latest update relate to texture baking, including the option to bake from multiple meshes, new AO from Mesh options, and the option to use custom tangent space plugins.

There is also a new Dilation width setting, intended to remove visible seams in baked textures.

Users also now have the option to override standard baking settings; and to create custom settings and to share project preferences across an entire team.

There are also new utilities designed to speed up the creation of physically based shaders, shown briefly towards the end of the video, but not covered in much detail.

Pricing and availability
Substance Designer 4.5 is available now for Windows and Mac OS X. The Indie version, intended for artists and studios with revenues of less than $10K per year, costs $99; a full Pro licence costs $590.
