Project Dogwaffle team ships Howler 9.1

The Project Dogwaffle Team has released Howler 9.1, a new update to its VFX-friendly digital paint tool that developer Dan Ritchie describes as “one of our most ambitious non-integer releases”.

GPU-accelerated rendering, compositing-friendly cropping and transforms
The main feature this time round is GPU-accelerated rendering: GPU support, originally introduced in version 8.2 for lighting and processor-intensive filters, has been extended to the Puppy Ray raytrace render engine.

There is also a new Crop tool with rotation and de-skewing for better compositing; a new Free Transform tool; and the UI has been overhauled, including an optional, more industry-standard light-on-dark colour scheme.

Howler 9.1 is available now for Windows, price $89.
