Amberlight lets you ‘paint’ with particle fields

Escape Motions – aka developer Peter Blaškovič, creator of interesting digital painting tool Flame Painter – has released a new product: the equally unclassifiable Amberlight.

An unusual procedural art package
A procedural art tool capable of generating a range of effects, Amberlight is based on Blaškovič’s earlier experimental online particle field sandbox, still available on the Escape Motions website.

The new release packages it up into a proper standalone application capable of generating print-res images – albeit ones less conventionally painted than controlled like a simulation.

Users influence the form of the image generated through simple control circles, and assign colour gradients. The palette used determines the look of the final render, with the results variously resembling astronomical photographs, jellyfish, light trails, fractals and subatomic diagrams.

“Imagine cosmic particles flying through the universe through your canvas, and it’s your role to catch
them and drive them with the special Amber fields,” says Blaškovič. “I believe [Amberlight is] creative enough for a professional artist but simple enough for an amateur.”

Pricing and availability
Amberlight is available now for Windows and Mac OS X. The MSRP is $29.99, but you can currently get it at an introductory price of $19.99.
