AAA Studio is to preview FurryBall 4, the next version of its GPU-accelerated production renderer for Maya – and now for 3ds Max – at Siggraph 2013. FurryBall 4 will be on view during an Nvidia tech talk.

New technical features in the release include:

  • Physically based full global illumination with unlimited light bounces
  • Fully raytraced shadows
  • Fully raytraced refractions and reflections
  • Unlimited number of textures, fur, displacement

However, just as interesting for anyone planning to use FurryBall in serious production work is full support for multiple GPUs, and support for network rendering.

FurryBall 4 will also feature the new 3ds Max edition of the software announced last year, along with a new standalone edition.

Updated 15 September: FurryBall 4 is now shipping for Maya 2011 and above and 3ds Max 2013 and above. You will need 64-bit Windows Vista or above, and a DirectX 11-capable Nvidia GPU to make use of all its features.

The standalone edition of the software costs €659 (around $875) and the Regular edition, which includes the standalone version, network renderer and both Maya and 3ds Max plugins, costs €959 ($1,275).

There is also a new watermarked Free edition.
