Eye candy: the 2013 Maxwell Render demo reel

For a renderer that has a reputation for creating agonisingly photorealistic still images, Maxwell Render gets used in quite a range of other situations – a point that Next Limit is at pains to make in its latest demo reel.

In fact, animations make up the majority of the client reel: some of them expected (slow-motion fluid sims and product turntables), some of them less so (kids’ cartoons – albeit beautifully lit and rendered ones).

There are still a few agonisingly photorealistic stills, of course, mainly clustered at the end of the reel – but the edit rattles through them at such pace, it would have been nice to linger on them a little longer.

But quibbles aside, the Maxwell reel is an attractive – and varied – thing to rest your eyes on for three minutes.
