Quixel ships dDo 5.0

The trailer for dDo, released when the plugin entered open beta. Developer Quixel has just released dDo 5.0, adding support for HDR IBL lighting and an unlimited triangle count to the Photoshop texturing tool.

Quixel has released what it describes as a “mega upgrade” to dDo, its Photoshop add-on for automating common texturing tasks, particularly for games work.

Major additions include support for HDR image-based lighting in the 3D preview, powered by Marmoset’s yet-to-be-released Skyshop engine; and support for unlimited triangles in 3D models.

There is also a new post-processing engine supporting effects including depth of field, vignetting, chromatic aberration, sharpening, anamorphic and ghosting lens effects, CCD noise, FOV and wireframe overlay.

Performance has been greatly improved, with Quixel quoting speed boosts of 10x for texture previewing and 20x for refreshing the UI. There is also a long list of smaller improvements and bugfixes.

Price, system requirements and a mini-review
An interesting thread on the Quixel forums has a miniature user review of the update, welcoming Marmoset support and unlimited triangle counts, but assessing which of the other changes help in professional work.

dDo is available now for Photoshop CS3 and above. A non-commercial licence costs $99, while commercial licences cost $249 and $499 for freelancers and studios respectively.
