Create a speed model this weekend and win $200

CNET’s coverage of LEGO’s new Mindstorms EV3 robot-building kits. Recreate one of them as a 3D model this weekend, and you could win $200 in Sketchfab’s first Sketchfast speed modelling contest.

LEGO Mindstorms kits enable kids to build cool remote-controlled robots. Sketchfab’s new Sketchfast contest encourages artists to model cool LEGO Mindstorms and win prizes.

The first of a new series of speed modelling contests, Sketchfast #1 encourages artists to “create one of LEGO’s new Mindstorms EV3 kits as a 3D model” (we’d imagine that there’s scope for a bit of creative interpretation, if only for copyright reasons). You don’t give up any of your own design rights to the model by entering the contest.

The creator of the best model submitted via the Sketchfab site by noon, Paris time, on Monday 14 January will win €150 (around $200 at current exchange rates). Runners-up will win a SketchFab Pro subscription and a T-shirt.

A WebGL-based platform for displaying and sharing 3D models, Sketchfab enables users to showcase assets interactively via a web browser. The service has just rolled out its new material editor.
