Watch the highlights of Siggraph Asia’s tech papers

ACM Siggraph has released a preview video of the technical papers to be presented at Siggraph Asia 2012, resulting in the usual fascinating selection of work-in-progress technologies.

The research on show ranges from better cloth and fluid simulations, skinning techniques and representations of digital materials to applications like 3D printing and new interface technologies for tablets.

But the projects that particularly caught our eye were a system for automatically generating 3D clouds to match those in a source photograph, and a new system for reconstructing hair based on thermal imaging.

More news about RigMesh
RigMesh, an old CG Channel favourite, also makes its appearance.

Since our original story on this sketch-based system for simultaneously modelling and rigging characters, more materials have been released on its creators’ website, including a new demo video.

Siggraph Asia 2012 takes place in Singapore from 28 November to 1 December.
