Eye candy: the first official Tears of Steel teaser

The Blender Foundation has released a teaser for its Project Mango open movie, now titled ‘Tears of Steel’.

The short film, which is being produced to validate Blender’s pipeline under production conditions, is the Foundation’s first live-action project, following the CG animations Elephants Dream, Big Buck Bunny and Sintel.

This time around, the focus is on developing Blender’s tracking tools and other effects-related features.

To judge by the trailer, the movie is your everyday tale of giant armoured robot folk attacking a modern-day city, in the vein of director Ian Hubert’s own indie VFX feature Project London.

The film is due for release in October, along with all its production assets, under a Creative Commons licence.
