Gnomon releases new DVD on HDRI capture for VFX

A teaser for The Gnomon Workshop’s latest DVD, High Dynamic Range Imaging for Live Action VFX.

The Gnomon Workshop has released a new two-hour training DVD on shooting and processing HDR images for live-action visual effects work, recorded by former Rhythm & Hues digital imaging specialist Phil Holland.

High Dynamic Range Imaging for Live Action VFX covers the tools and techniques used to shoot and process High Dynamic Range images, including camera equipment necessary to capture 360-degree spherical HDRIs and image manipulation using PTGui, HDR Shop, Photoshop and Adobe’s Camera Raw plugin.

The video also explores how to deal with image stitching errors, techniques for repairing and touching up HDRIs, and many of the techniques and camera rigs Holland has created for use on movie sets over the years.

Now freelance after working at Rhythm & Hues from 1999 to 2010, Phil Holland has contributed to more than 160 feature films, producing work that encapsulates digital color correction/grading, high dynamic range imaging, cross polarized texture photography, still photography, cinematography, and conceptual illustration.

High Dynamic Range Imaging for Live Action VFX is available now on DVD and digital download, price $59.
