Sneak peek: iray rendering in 3ds Max

Autodesk has released another sneak peek at work-in-progress technology for 3ds Max. This one will be immediately familiar for anyone who saw last week’s real-time MassFX physics simulation, since it shows the same ‘bearing machine’ rendered using the updated iray renderer.

The information posted on YouTube doesn’t give any details of render times, but we’d hope that this is real-time output: in addition to the GeForce GTX 480 graphics card used for the physics simulation, the system spec now includes “(3) Tesla C2075” – and given the C2075 is a $2,000+ companion processor specifically designed for GPGPU computing, that’s some pretty serious hardware.
