Its obvious that you have never read the original comics, (good that you cleared that out from the start). Luckily Steven Spielberg aswell as John Williams have. I found the opening sequence to be very promising, as John Williams captured the rythmic essence of the TinTin Adventures and translated it in a very sensitive way. Sure its no bombastic in your face theme..but neiter are the original stories. The music and its visual presentation is sometimes sneaky, lets sometimes one instrument chase another, its mysterious but overall very humorous with a nice "old world" feel to it...I think it pays hommage to the old french comic series very well.
And Haddock IS more irritating than endearing...;o) I would have found it more annoying if they had changed him for mainstreams sake.
