Unity Technologies ships Unity 3.5

A developer preview of Unity 3.5’s new Shuriken particle system. The software has now been released officially.

Unity Technologies has released another packed update to its Unity game development platform.

Major features in Unity 3.5 include Flash export, the new ‘Shuriken’ particle system, built-in pathfinding, a complete rewrite of the occlusion culling system, and adaptive tonemapping for linear workflow.

The minor features, however, go on for pages: we counted over 400 new features, updates and bugfixes in the official release list before giving up the unequal struggle.

And this is all in a half-point update: proof, we reckon, that Unity Technologies is not just one of the fastest-growing developers in the field of 3D, but one of the fastest-working, too.

Unity 3.5 Pro costs $1,500. The base edition of the software is free. This comparison chart lists the differences between the feature sets and those of the add-on modules available.
