It’s amazing that Little Tombstone exists at all.
Ten years ago, most commercial studios couldn’t have produced an animation as detailed as this, let alone a four-man student team.
The five-minute short – the product of brilliant French animation school ESMA – wears its sources on its sleeve: a dash of Red Dead Redemption, and a hefty dose of a Clint Eastwood movie we probably don’t have to name.
But it’s directed with pizazz, and the characters – in all their dirty, sweaty, saggy glory – just look incredible. As Eli Wallach said: “I like big fat men like you. When they fall they make more noise.”
