Chaos Group has officially released V-Ray for Softimage.

The new port of the industry-standard renderer, which emerged in beta last year, supports what looks at first glance to be a reasonably full list of Softimage’s features, including ICE particles, hair and geometry.

Standard features of V-Ray, such as the Blend and layered materials are present and correct. Although the release is officially V-Ray 1.5 for Softimage, features introduced in the 3ds Max version of V-Ray 2.0, such as dispersion and the new Car Paint material, are also included.

V-Ray for Softimage is available now for Softimage 2010 and above, at an MSRP of $1,230. According to Chaos Group, the software is also compatible with – but not supported for – Softimage 7.x.
