Eye candy: Archetype

Aaron Sims’ dark sci-fi short, Archetype. Visit the film’s website to see behind-the-scenes stills and videos.

Legendary creature designer Aaron Sims has just made his first film, the dark science-fiction fable Archetype, available to view in its entirety online.

The short is intended as a teaser for a longer feature, so it ends on something of a cliff-hanger, but the effects – created by Sims and a small team of VFX artists – look amazing.

The story of a robot who becomes self-aware – much to the concern of the company which created him – Archetype was the subject of Aaron’s 2011 Master Class for the Gnomon School of Visual Effects.

You can read the interview we did with Aaron at the time, which discusses both the making of Archetype and his concept design work on movies like Rise of the Planet of the Apes, via the link below.

The Archetype website also contains a lot of production stills and behind-the-scenes videos from the making of the short: well worth checking out.
