Chaos Group ships update to V-Ray 2.0 for 3ds Max

Chaos Group has released an update to V-Ray 2.0 for 3ds Max adding new hair and fur functionality and improved GPU-based rendering.

Hair and fur benefit from a new dedicated VRayHairMtl material and native support for ephere’s Ornatrix hair-simulation plugin – itself recently updated to version 1.8 – via VRayOrnatrixMod modifier.

The V-Ray RT GPU render engine also now supports a range of additional features including VRayProxy objects, texture-mapped area and mesh lights, Simple Skylight portals, and the VRayBlendMtl.

And although it isn’t listed in the official news release, Max Underground reports that the update also includes support for Ptex textures via the VRayPtex node. Ptex support was previously added in VRay for Maya 2.0.
