LuxRender team launches new developer blog

A series of Blender 2.5 physics tests created by YouTube user Phymec, and rendered in LuxRender. The development team has just launched a blog to make casual users aware of the renderer’s new features.

The developers of open-source physically based render engine LuxRender have launched a new blog to inform users of updates – prompted in part by a forum thread enquiring if the project was dead.

In fact, rather a lot has been added to the software since the release of LuxRender 0.8 in June, including normal mapping, true multi-layered materials, motion transforms and support for multiple GPUs in hybrid render mode.

Now clocking up its fourth year in public development, LuxRender supports a range of standard 3D applications – above all, Blender, but also 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, DAZ Studio, Poser, SketchUp and Softimage – and is available on Windows, OS X and Linux. If you haven’t been to see it yourself for a while, it is worth a look.
