Production Rendering Techniques with Mental Ray (MRY201 fxphd) course is amazing. So many concepts are explained in concise detail. I think it is a must for anybody who renders with mental ray.

I was pulling my hair out the other day. I was rendering hair in mental ray(3ds max) so I had to use Mental ray shadow maps. I used a seperate light for the hair ambient light so I had to exclude the rest of the objects from the light, this does not work in mental ray, the objects still cast shadows. I know there is a work-around for raytraced shadows but that does not work for shadow maps.]]></description>
