Videos: Autodesk Labs’ new crowd-simulation system

Autodesk has posted four new demo videos of Project Geppetto, its work-in-progress crowd-simulation system.

The system, which is due for release as a free beta via the Autodesk Labs R&D website in August, supports basic avoidance and idle behaviours, the latter of which can be painted freehand into a scene; but no more complex interactions.

In his blog post, Ken Pimentel, Autodesk’s director of visual communications solutions, emphasises that the system should evolve considerably between now and the public release.

“We’ve got a ton of work still to do [so] don’t judge our final plans by these early videos,” he writes.
