Free update released for PhotoSculpt Textures

Developer Hippolyte Mournier has released a free update to PhotoSculpt Textures, his new tool for creating seamlessly tileable textures from photographic images.

The program uses photogrammetric techniques to generate textures and surface geometry from two reference photos of an object. The software is capable of generating a full range of texture maps, including diffuse, specular, bump, displacement, normal, ambient occlusion and Z-depth, at a high level of detail.

Version 1.03 adds support for 16-bit displacement maps, new beta functions for aligning images manually and working in closed mesh mode – the latter aimed at users of voxel sculpting tools like 3D-Coat – and a range of performance improvements.

The software costs €99 for a Personal licence and €299 for a Professional licence.

The Photosculpt Textures website also includes a range of free and commercial textures created with the software, and tutorials on using them in 3ds Max, Blender and modo.

If you haven’t checked it out yet, it’s well worth a look.
