Making Of NOX-2292

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010 | Posted by Bob Ward | 17 comments

Issue 16 of 3D Artist Magazine has an accompanying DVD ROM that comes with a nice little surprise. The 3D Model and assets for NOX-2292 by Slipgatecentral. It reminded of this amazing 3D model that was created by Vadim aka Slipgatecentral for Dominance War IV, last year’s massive online art competition. He won and is a first place Grand Champion. I thought that the “making of” videos would make a great addition to CG Theatre. Shortly after Vadim won the competition he got a job at Blizzard Entertainment. I think by looking at his work we can see why. Lets hope for a Dominance War V, so we can see what the users of the world’s CG forums have to offer this year.

You can check out more of Vadim’s work on his Blog and and Deviant Art page

Yeah, that’s what I thought! Looking at his Maya files I was even more floored! Pick up a copy of this month’s 3D Artist mag. You can toy around with the files. Its great.

I have been a fan of the “NOX” work eversince the stills were posted for dominance war.. your YOUTUBE clips were fun and so much helpful but this one really took me way up there! Congratulations to the success of your work.
..a question though, is there an available plug-in for the “topology relaxing” trick you were doing?

The Magazine is 3DArtist issue 16. There is nothing said about this being on the disc that comes with the magazine. I think it is just an added bonus.

This model is amazing, I love it and the videos are very informative. Now if I can just find the magazine, went onto the 3D Artist website and it looks like the new issue is out now so hopefully I can find issue 16 somewhere to get the DVD and model.

Check around town.:) I found issue 16 today after going to a different book store of the same chain.
If you’re in a city with a chain of bookstores, call each location and ask. They sometimes stagger 2 months worth of issues in the same month and put them in different stores.

One store may have issue 15 and another has issue 16.
