Michael Bay has the ultimate formula for summer blockbuster so far. Judging from Transformers 2 the next installment (Transformers 3) is bound to be a success. How can you bring a little of that popularity to your short film or reel? Check out The Bay Formula:
Step 1: Study the Bay and learn to look beyond the babe…..
If anything the Victoria Secret ads created by Michael Bay prove that he knows what guys (aged 13+) want to see. Girls, heat waves, girls, cars, and girls. Lesson learned: add girls in underwear/tight clothing to your story.

Step 2: Blow stuff up…..
Really this one needs no explanation. The bigger the ‘bang’ the louder the sound of the cash register at the box office.

Step 3: Its all about the story:
Have no idea how to write a story? Its ok….just write a story that fits within a 30 sec time slot. If it’s entertaining you can then stretch that same story line into a 2 hour movie.

Step 4: Gotta have some color in your lighting
If you have a color formula for your lighting stand by it….orange offset with blue works great. What about red and green for Transformers 3?

Step 5: Have lots of parts flying everywhere
Really the more parts and pieces and junk nobody can recognize the better. Throw some parts around. After all it’s just going to be a blur of motion anyway.

Step 6: Presentation is everything….
How you introduce new elements doesn’t have to makes sense. It just has to be cool. Check out this awesome Bayed out reel. Proving that you can make a cool reel with elements of the Bay formula.
